Tripadvisor has released the 2024 Travellers’ Choice Hotels Awards. The annual list is decided by real travellers based on reviews and ratings collected over 12 months from all over the world. The winners span nine categories, from Top Hotels to B&Bs and Inns, Luxury, Small and Boutique, including three new subcategories this year: Pet-Friendly, Sustainable and Wellness.
With Brazil’s Hotel Colline de France ranked as the No. 1 Top Hotel in the World for 2024, the list features three Northern Ireland hotels. Here are the three best places to stay in NI, according to Tripadvisor:
The Harrison, Belfast
Ranked No. 16, the hotel was voted in the Small and Boutique Hotels category, the top choices among global travellers. Two years ago, The Harrison took fourth place in National Geographic’s “Ultimate Hotel Guide to Belfast.” Dating from 1879, the restored landmark Victorian merchants’ residence is a fun and quirky place to stay.
Each of the 17 rooms combines pieces collected by the owner, Melanie Harrison, with modern facilities. The rooms feature huge bay windows, antique furniture, sumptuous velvet curtains, and bathtubs in the bedrooms. The Harrison is near some of Belfast’s finest restaurants, such as Deane’s at Queens.
The Bishop’s Gate Hotel, Londonderry
Listed as No. 19 in the prestigious Top Hotels in the UK, the hotel is a new entry to the Best of the Best category. According to Dan Mitchell, Vice President & General Manager Hotels, Tripadvisor, “Our Best of the Best Hotels are marvels, acclaimed by thousands of travellers for their remarkable service, stunning design, and wealth of amenities that redefine what it means to have an exceptional hotel experience. According to our Tripadvisor reviewers, each of the world’s best hotels caters to the traveller looking for accessible luxury and unique, tailored experiences.”
Nestled within the walled city, the hotel has stunning Edwardian architecture and luxurious guestrooms, including 2 suites, an adjacent 2-bedroom apartment, a residents lounge, a fitness area, a restaurant, a champagne and cocktail bar, and a 120-person ballroom. The hotel’s The Wig and Gown Champagne Bar and Restaurant offers casual, high-end dining all day, complemented by live entertainment on select evenings. It’s also a prime location for exploring local shops, bars, and historical sites on foot.
Ardtara Country House
This is ranked No. 19 in the Small and Boutique Hotels category. Located in the heart of NI, this elegant 19th-century mansion has a picturesque setting amid woodlands, lakes, and the spectacular sights of the Sperrin mountains. The historic country house offers genuine warmth and hospitality, luxurious accommodation, and award-winning dining. The recently renovated bedrooms are filled with original features and furnished with a mixture of antiques, heirlooms, and quirky pieces.
The House provides award-winning gourmet cooking with the finest seasonal food, including fruit, vegetables, and herbs. The venue offers two dining areas: the Clark room, complete with a glass canopy over where the billiards table once sat, lit by two roaring fires in the original fireplaces, and the garden restaurant in the orangery. The House has an extensive wine list, a cocktail menu, and a comprehensive array of local (and not so local) spirits, beers, and aperitifs. The property is also a great wedding venue.
